The Health Ministry is working closely with the Transport Ministry, to ensure public transport drivers undergo a sleep test.
Speaking to reporters after launching the Asian Sleep Congress today, its Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said, the test is crucial, as bus drivers were more exposed to sleep apnea, due to their tiring job scope.
"We would like to propose that they need sleep test so that we can understand public vehicle drivers sleeping patterns, if they need advice from doctors, then we can advice them."
"Now they have health check but only blood test and urine test. We just add on another sleep test," said Datuk Seri Liow.
He added, his ministry will also engage with Bank Negara, to enable insurance reimbursement for victims involved in accidents related to sleep disorder, as it is a type of sickness, that needed treatment accordingly.
