Beware That Acid Backflow

Gastric juices escaping the stomach don’t just burn the oesophagus and the throat – these can have long-lasting detrimental effects as well.

It isn’t normal to get frequent sore throats and mouth ulcers – and when combined with a hoarse throat, these are usually seen as symptoms of stress or a weak disposition requiring massive doses of multivitamins and herbal concoctions to restore your body’s inner strength.

If such basic remedies don’t work and you also experience tinnitus (ringing in the ears), difficulty breathing plus post-nasal drips (excessive mucous accumulation in the back of the nose), you might want to consult a doctor or preferably, a specialist.

This is because all these symptoms could indicate you might be suffering from the laryngopharyngeal reflux disease (LPRD) or injury to the throat and voice box due to backflow of stomach contents through the esophagus to the pharynx and larynx.

LPRD is also closely associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) – defined as a condition which develops when the reflux of stomach contents causes troublesome symptoms or complications.
